They are being picked up off the streets. Disappearing. Some are likely already dead. We must remember to memorialize them today too. For their have made our country what it is as well as those who fought on the battle fields.
We didn’t hate them when they were the reason there was local food in our grocery stores.
We didn’t hate them when they worked through hazardous wildfire smoke to save the food in the fields.
We didn’t hate them when it was too hot to work outside and they showed up anyway.
We didn’t hate them on the rainy and cold days when they showed up when we wouldn’t.
We didn’t hate them when they worked through the pandemic and many of their fellow farmworkers didn’t make it.
We didn’t hate them when we found out that the hazardous pesticide exposure farm workers endured were making them sick. And, then worked anyway.
We didn’t hate them when they gave us the ability to focus on our dreams while theirs were put aside while they picked our food.
You know when we started to hate them? When DT rode down the escalator and started the messaging that made them the fall for all that made us angry about our own lives.
And for the last ten years, he’s hammered it home, and now it is a truth.
This is Memorial Day. Time to remember they way it is, not the way he needs it to be in order to stay in power.
Post pictures of our immigrants today and let’s memorialize that. And, thank them. Individually. One at a time. Today and every day. It’s time to make America see the truth again.
